About

Gericke's Point is a relatively small rocky outcrop located at the spot where the long Swartvlei Beach takes a sharp turn and comes along the Garden Route in the Western Cape Province of South Africa.

It is one of the popular spots with locals as well as travelers, mostly for its sandstone sculpture, which looks like a crouching lion when viewed from a particular angle.

The point is also a common topic discussed in the local history books because of the tragic Nepaul Shipwreck that took place in 1850. Visitors can catch a glimpse of migrating whales during spring and winter.

They can also capture the fascinating views of the Humpback Dolphins surfing the waves, in addition to Cape Fur Seals, relaxing on the rocks or grooming themselves in the gentle waters of the rock pools.

Gericke's Point is one of the iconic landmarks of the region worth visiting to experience the serenity of the sea, splendid views of the surrounding nature and the ancient fossilized trackways.
